Impacts related to climate change are evident across regions and in many sectors important to societysuch as human health, agriculture and food security, water supply, transportation, energy, ecosystems, and othersand are expected to become increasingly disruptive throughout this century and beyond.
SOCIAL IMPACT The modes of mining and the lack of regulation of waste management are among the main causes of the problems of mining at social level. Instead of being an asset and allowing the development, mines often become an obstacle for the countries concerned. Development: People often do not benefit from the income of mining products.
Abandoned mines cause serious environmental damage to their surroundings with considerable impacts on freshwater ecosystems. These impacts occur mainly due to the uncontrolled discharge of polluted effluents, which may contain high concentrations of heavy metals.
Ecological effects Most mining activities induce an impact on their environ-ment (e.g., water, groundwater) due to the presence of metal element (ME)-rich tailing deposits . The effects of contamination from abandoned mine waste occur at all levels of biological organization, and there are potential indicators at each level [22, 23].
